The first release of the Hellenic localization is out; and its free and open source. Its full name is: “hello Mac OS! v1.0 for Mac OS X 10.4.8” and it has made (obviously) for the latest version of Mac OS and iLife 06 suite. You may download it from Macupdate or hello-macos.org
“It is an offer for the Greek Mac Users” as the hello volunteer team says.
Vangelis Petalias, Panagiotis Katsaloulis and their mates are behind all this project that offers Greek menus at most (if not all) of the Apple Applications that are made for or even bundled with Mac OS X.
Vangelis is a Mac fanatic and Panagiotis an “open source software” fanatic (but a mac fanatic too). They made the perfect combination that gave us the Hellenic localization package absolutely for free.
In fact Apple should have been the one creating such a language package, respecting the Greek Mac users, as the same company does for the rest of the Europeans.
The applications that their menus have been translated in Greek are: Address Book, Automator, Calculator, Chess, Dictionary, DVD Player, Front Row, Finder, iChat, Image Capture, Internet Connect, iSync, iTunes, Mail, Photo Booth, Preview, Safari, Stickies, System Preferences & TextEdit.
From iLife suite: iDvd, iMovie HD, iPhoto & iWeb; also the utilities: System Profiler, X11, Boot Camp, Installer & Bluetooth File Exchange.
We have to say that many free and open source Greek fonts are bundled with this package too.
These fonts are downloadable also from here.
